Nail Care Tips / May 31, 2019

nail1Busy lifestyles can sometimes make it hard to maintain a good nail care regime. We often struggle to find time to give our nails the TLC they deserve. With this in mind, we wanted to share our top five tips we swear by for keeping nails healthy and beautiful.

TRIM REGULARLY

Regular trims are as important to your nails as they are to your hair. Every week, set aside some time to cut your nails. After a while, you’ll develop a routine depending on how they respond to the trimming and how quickly they grow.

VALUE HEALTH OVER LENGTH

Long nails are gorgeous, but if your nails aren’t very strong and you suffer from frequent breakages or hangnails, we recommend short nails with rounded edges. The round shape is neat, easy to manage, and you won’t miss the length as long as each nail is uniform in shape.

GIVE YOUR NAILS A BREAK

Elaborate nail art and multiple manis without giving your nails a break can cause dry, yellow nails. Over time, this can even weaken the nail structure. We like to apply some jojoba-based nail oil and leave it to soak into the nails for a few hours after removing your polish. Sometimes we even go a couple of days bare. If the idea of naked nails fills you with horror, try applying a simple clear gloss.

nail2CARRY AN EMERY BOARD…EVERYWHERE

We recommend always stashing an emery board in your purse, particularly if you’re someone who causes a lot of wear and tear by working with your hands or going to the gym. They’re such a small and cheap invention but SO useful. You can quickly smooth away any rough edges as soon as they happen. File your nails in one direction and work with the grain for the smoothest finish.

MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE!

Especially during these dry summer months, It’s vital to keep your nails and cuticles hydrated. You wouldn’t go to sleep without moisturizing your face, so why treat your nails any differently? Pretty much any moisturizer will do, even a dab of lip balm if you’re desperate. We swear by L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Hand Cream because it’s very nourishing but not too greasy.

Have you given your nails some TLC lately? We’d love to hear what your top tips are for keeping your nails healthy and beautiful.
