How to put nail tips on?
Getting a monthly manicure to maintain acrylic nail tips at a salon can be a budget-breaker. Thankfully, applying acrylic nail tips in the comfort of home is an affordable alternative that keeps nails looking perfectly pampered and polished. Best of all, no appointment is necessary. DIY acrylic nails come at a fraction of the cost and require just a few inexpensive supplies, making them an ideal option for those who want long, luxurious nails without having to pay a professional nail tech.
Prepare Nails
The nail beds must be cleaned and buffed before applying the artificial nail tips. Dirt, debris, and existing polish can prevent the acrylic from properly adhering, which may leave bumps or rough spots along the surface of the nail.
Remove Existing Polish
Use nail polish remover and a cotton ball to remove the old polish. Apply the product to a cotton swab and rub it along the sides of the nail bed to get rid of smaller specks that the cotton ball is unable to reach. Wash hands with mild soap and warm water to rinse off any excess polish remover.
Trim and Buff Nails
Use a manicure set to cut nails and push back cuticles. For best results, trim nails to align with fingertips, then use a nail file to remove any rough edges. Carefully use cuticle remover and cutting tools to press the cuticle to the edge of the nail, where the nail bed meets the skin. Rub a nail buffer along the surface of the nails to create a smooth surface, then wipe hands with a dry cloth to remove the nail dust.
Apply Nail Primer
Place the primer applicator brush, or cotton swab with nail priming solution, at the base of the nail bed and move it upward to the tip to coat the nail bed. Only a thin layer of nail primer is required to remove excess moisture and oils. Avoid direct contact with skin, as nail primer can cause irritation and burning.
Attach Nail Tips
Apply a pea-sized amount of nail glue along the edge of the nail tip and press it down onto the nail bed. The nail tip should cover approximately half of the natural nail, with the curved edge facing the cuticle. Hold the nail tip down for 15 to 30 seconds to secure it in place. If the artificial nail does not adhere properly, simply soak it in warm water to soften the glue, remove the tip, then apply a new nail tip after drying the finger.
